Children & Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI)

All services follow strict confidentiality laws, including:

• FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)

• HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)

Student and family information is securely protected.

Since the pandemic, students’ needs for mental and emotional health support have increased sharply. 

During the pandemic, both the state and federal governments provided temporary funding to meet the increased need, and Alhambra Unified used that funding to implement programs for students in grades TK-12.

That funding was temporary "one-time funding". CYBHI will help us maintain school-based mental health services in the face of funding cuts that districts are experiencing.

CYBHI is designed to directly benefit children and families by bringing mental health and wellness services into schools, making care more accessible, comprehensive, and youth-centered.

By providing your student's health insurance information, school mental health you allow the school's mental health providers to create sustainable programs that are not solely reliant on the unpredictability of grant funding. By allowing the district to bill your students insurance for mental health services it helps maintain and grow the district's mental health supports.

No, families will never have to pay a copay or will receive a bill for services under CYBHI.  The law prohibits health plans from passing these costs onto families.

No, participating in CYBHI will not impact you or your student's insurance coverage or any services that are currently being received outside of the district.

With your support, your child has access to a team of trained professionals—including school counselors, psychologists, wellness coordinators, interns, and Child Welfare & Attendance (CWA) specialists—who provide care based on each student’s needs.

Services include:

• Behavior support and coaching

• Mental health and wellness workshops

• Small group and individual counseling

• Support for stress, anxiety, or grief

• Referrals for long-term or specialized care

All services are free, confidential, and provided on campus during the school day.
