About SJCA
San Jose Charter Academy is a wonderful place for students to learn. Our school enrollment is 1256 students with 2500 on our waiting list. First through eight grade students attend school 7.5 hours a day, with our Transition kinder and kinder classes attending 6.5 hours. In addition to our research-based core curriculum, students are instructed by single subject teachers for PE, Art and Music. Students are provided with a customized learning period during the day where their individual needs are addressed.
Teacher collaboration is an essential component at SJCA. All teachers are provided with a daily block of professional development time in which they meet as grade/subject level teams for a specific purpose. One important area of discussion is student data.
SJCA's technology program continues to expand. All 6th - 8th grade students are equipped with their own Apple laptop for school and home use. All TK - 5th grade students are in a 1:1 iPad configuration. All new curriculum adoptions have a technology component. Classroom and flexible learning spaces will include Promethean interactive flat panels in addition to voice enhancement sound systems. Ongoing technology professional development is provided to staff with a focus on integrating new hardware and software to optimize student learning opportunities.
While the delivery of purposeful and intentional instruction is certainly an important part of what we do, addressing our students socio-emotional and executive functioning needs are important to us as well. Our 8 Core Values are taught throughout the year. We are also very excited about SJCA's adoption of the Leader In Me program, involving all TK-8th grade students.
