TERM 2 | DISTANCE LEARNING UPDATE

Good Morning, SJCA Community,

We want to provide you with an update on the status of our school's reopening. As we have shared in the past, reopening of schools in Los Angeles County are directly governed by decisions made at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health based on COVID-19 data.

Schools may not reopen fully for in-person instruction until the county has been in the Substantial (Red) Tier for two weeks. In addition, reopening of schools will only involve TK-2nd grade students and small groups of students with "great need." Los Angeles County is currently in the Widespread (Purple) Tier, which is more restrictive that the Red Tier.

Dr. Barbara Fererra, the Director of the LA County Dept. of Public Health is not optimistic regarding the reopening of schools until after the first of the year. And even then, there is too much that is unknown.

Due to all of the uncertainty, SJCA Administration has prepared a plan that would continue the Distance Learning program through the end of the second quarter. (February 26th). It has been very difficult planning for a hybrid (in-person/distance learning) return when the status of our COVID-19 tier data has been so inconsistent. We realize this news will be disappointing to many of our students and parents. As a staff, we, too, would love to get back to in-person learning as soon as it is safe to do so.

We will continue to keep you updated as things change. In the meantime, our administration, teaching staff, and support staff are doing everything possible to make our students' Distant Learning experience the best possible.

In partnership,
Dr. Denise Patton
Superintendent
